Djibo Milk Project

In a town like Djibo there are many problems relating to the abject poverty that many of the populace find themselves in. Amongst the more vulnerable, as is often the case, are the infants, many of whom suffer from severe malnutrition brought about simply by being born here.

For a number of years now SIM have been running a milk powder project aimed at helping the more desperate cases, offering them a chance of survival. Among these children are orphans and twins where, more often than not, the mother is either absent due to death through childbirth or has simply not got enough milk to feed both children resulting in only the strongest surviving.

Today the project is run by Haoua, a Fulani lady who has grown up in the area and has the vision to take this ministry forward. Her main responsibilities are the organisation, distribution and general administration of the project as well as the purchasing and the preparation of the milk powder and grain supplement for the older children.

One of the visions Haoua has is to visit the ladies in their own compounds to talk through the administering of the food supplements to the babies. Often the ladies find it very difficult to understand instructions for the milk products to have maximum benefits. She believes that if she were to visit people in their own homes they would have a better understanding of how to look after these malnourished infants.

We would value that you pray for Haoua and her ministry that the Lord would provide for this need as the work continues to develop.
